On March 20, 2025, at 3:00 PM in Room 13 of the Politecnico di Bari, as part of the Environmental Hydraulics course (Bachelor’s Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering track – Bari) and the Environmental and Territorial Hydraulics course (Second-Level Master's in Territorial and Environmental Planning), both taught by Professor Michele Mossa, Professor Lucas Enrique Calvo Gobbetti from the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá delivered a seminar titled Hydraulic Aspects and Environmental Issues of the Panama Canal. The seminar was followed by a presentation on geological issues by Dr. Bella Almillategui.
During the seminar, a brief overview of the history of the Panama Canal was provided, along with key design elements of the hydraulic system of the new locks and the environmental challenges associated with this major strategic infrastructure.
