In this research topic we have carried out experimental studies on local scouring downstream of different hydraulic structures in the hydraulic laboratory channels of the Water Engineering and Chemistry Department of the Technical University of Bari (Italy) and of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (Italy). The main objectives of these studies are to determine scour hole dimension, with its maximum scour depth as a function of time and at the equilibrium stage, the scour hole shapes and the investigation of the influence of the hydraulic structures, i.e. bed sills or horizontal aprons, etc., on the distribution of the three-velocity components through the scour hole.
