Hydraulic jump toe fluctuations, analyzed with image processing procedure.
The backscatter, two-component four-beam fiber-optic LDA system used in the wave channel of the Water Engineering and Chemistry Dept.
In order to investigate bubbly two-phase flow in a hydraulic jump a flow visualization technique was proposed. This is possible by evaluating the gray scale levels of the first principal axes of transformed images starting from RGB images. The experiments considered the phenomenon of air concentration in a hydraulic jump, which was studied and analyzed using image processing techniques, aimed at obtaining reliable quantitative measurements.
Also classic study on the velocity and resistance laws were carried out using relatively new techniques, such as a LDA system. Particularly, an experimental study aimed at determining turbulence and resistance coefficient characteristics of the flow field in smooth concentric annular conduits. The measurements of velocity field were performed with a laser Doppler anemometer system in the flow region between the inner wall and the radius of maximum velocity (inner region). Typical turbulence scales were analyzed.
